What we collect

The information we collect depends on how you use ìmọ̀.

Using our website: We may collect limited technical information such as your device, browser, IP address, cookies and website activity.

Joining or contacting us: You may provide your name, email address, interests, preferences and anything you choose to include in a message.

Using our services: When testing becomes available, we may process information connected with your account, order, delivery, payment and customer support.

DNA and genetic information: Testing may involve your biological sample, genetic data and the results generated from it.

Genetic data is special-category personal data under UK data protection law and requires additional protection.

02

Why we use your information

We use your information only where there is a clear reason to do so.

This may include:

providing and managing our services;

processing orders, samples and results;

communicating with you about your account or service;

protecting our users, systems and accounts;

improving our website and services; and

meeting legal and regulatory obligations.

Where your consent is required for a particular use, we will ask for it.

03

Our legal basis

UK data protection law requires a lawful basis whenever personal information is processed.

Depending on the circumstances, we may rely on:

Contract: where processing is necessary to provide a service you have requested.

Consent: where you have actively agreed to a particular use.

Legitimate interests: where there is a justified and proportionate reason to use information that does not override your rights.

Legal obligation: where we are required by law to process or retain information.

Genetic information requires an additional legal condition because of its particularly sensitive nature.

04

How we protect your information

Privacy needs more than promises.

We use technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal and genetic information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure.

Access to sensitive information is restricted to people and organisations that genuinely need it for an authorised purpose.

We expect stronger safeguards where the information is more sensitive.

We do not sell, rent or trade your genetic information.

We do not provide your genetic information to advertisers, data brokers, employers or insurers for their own independent use.

05

When information may be disclosed

We keep disclosure of personal and genetic information to the minimum necessary.

Some services may require carefully selected laboratories, technology providers, payment services or delivery partners to process limited information on our behalf.

Where this happens, they should receive only the information needed for their role and must handle it for authorised purposes under appropriate contractual and security requirements.

We may also be required to disclose information where the law requires us to do so, including in response to a valid requirement from a court, regulator, law-enforcement body or other competent authority.

Where permitted, we will consider the validity and scope of a request and aim not to disclose more information than is legally required.

06

Your DNA

Some information deserves extra care.

DNA is different from ordinary personal information because it can reveal information uniquely connected to you and, in some circumstances, biological relatives.

That is why genetic information receives additional safeguards around access, storage, processing and disclosure.

We may invite you to participate in research in the future.

Where research participation is optional, we will explain what it involves before asking you to decide.

Choosing not to participate in optional research will not affect your ordinary use of ìmọ̀ services.

07

How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as it is reasonably needed.

The appropriate period depends on the type of information, why it is being used and any legal or regulatory requirements that apply.

Different retention periods may apply to account information, transactions, biological samples and genetic information.

When information is no longer required, we will securely delete or anonymise it where appropriate.

08

Where your data may be processed

Some specialist technology or service providers may process information outside the UK.

Where this occurs, we will use safeguards required by applicable UK data protection law.

You can contact us if you would like more information about international transfers relating to your information.

09

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law gives you rights over your personal information.

These may include the right to:

access information held about you;

correct inaccurate information;

request deletion where the right applies;

restrict certain processing;

object to certain processing;

receive certain information in a portable form; and

withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.

Some rights are subject to legal exceptions. Where an exception applies, we will explain this where appropriate.

10

Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate our website and understand how it is used.

Where consent is required, non-essential cookies will not be used until you choose to allow them.

You can learn more and manage your choices through our Cookie Policy and Cookie Settings.

11

Under 18?

Our standard services are designed for adults unless we specifically state otherwise.

If we introduce services for people under 18, appropriate eligibility, privacy, consent and safeguarding information will be provided.

12

When this notice changes

Science evolves. Technology evolves. So will ìmọ̀.

We may update this notice as our services, systems or legal requirements develop.

Where significant changes affect how we use personal information, we will provide appropriate notice where required.

The latest update date will always appear at the top of this page.

Questions? Let's talk.

Privacy shouldn't require a law degree.

If you have a question about your information, want to exercise a data protection right or have concerns about how your information is handled, contact us.

Email: info@imogenomics.co.uk

You also have the right to raise a concern with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's independent data protection regulator.

Your DNA is personal.

Protecting the information behind it is part of our responsibility.

Clear about what we collect.

Careful about how we use it.

Serious about protecting it.

That's privacy at ìmọ̀.
